Representative Spitzer hosted a group of constituents and friends visiting the State Capitol from his hometown of Athens TX which is always a great pleasure. This group included Mayor Jerry Don Vaught and Mike Coston – President of the Athens Chamber of Commerce as well as the Athens Chamber Leadership Institute Class of 2015.
Upon their arrival the group met with Dr. Spitzer and Senator Robert Nichols for a Mexican dinner at Serrano’s and an evening of great networking. The next day he met them for breakfast and discussed hot topic legislative issues like water, transportation, and education. Dr. Spitzer stressed that “cut and paste emails are not grassroots advocacy” and that real stories from real people carry infinity more weight with elected official than lobbyists and advocacy groups.
Later that day Rep. Spitzer had the privilege passing House Resolution 515 recognizing the Athens delegation from the House Floor, while Sen. Nichols recognized them from the floor of the Senate.
“It was good for me to spend time with folks from my hometown,” commented Rep. Spitzer, “I hope they enjoyed their visit and felt their time was well spent. I always appreciate it when my constituents take the time and effort to come to Austin.”
